Reality enters the artwork.
Art returns it as a question.
There is an inner space where time stands still.
That is where my research takes shape.
That is where my work begins.
This website tells the story of that research.
“Memory is the school of an unwritten future.”
— Sergio Brambillasca

THE LANGUAGE OF SERGIO BRAMBILLASCA
Sergio Brambillasca is an Italian contemporary artist whose distinctive artistic language is built around the human profile, the perimeter as an invisible theatre, and inner rooms. Memory and the participation of others become part of the artwork’s creation.
My research begins with a structure that, over time, has become my language.
The perimeter defines the space of the artwork.
It is the place where something happens: my invisible theatre.
Within this perimeter, my inner rooms take shape.
The profile becomes presence, the mark becomes space, memory enters the representation.
These elements no longer exist as separate units.
Like 1, 2, 3 and 4, which cease to be four distinct numbers and become 1234, they come together in a single structure.
The structure can extend beyond the perimeter of the artwork.
What I encounter can enter it, modify it, and become part of its construction.
The artwork can then construct itself like a representation: a space exists, something happens within it, someone encounters it and finally leaves a trace of their passage.
The signature becomes the final act.
It is not a testimony added to the artwork: it is the moment when participation enters its structure and the representation is completed.
THE INNER ROOMS

The inner rooms are places that do not exist in physical space, but within us.
They are spaces shaped by memory, absences, expectations, and what we have lived through.
The figures that inhabit them do not tell a complete story.
They remain suspended, as if something had just happened or were still about to happen.
I do not represent a room.
I seek the invisible space that a person carries within.
LISTENING, LEARNING AND CREATING
My work does not arise only from what I see.
It arises from what I encounter.
I listen to people, their stories, the places they inhabit, and what they carry with them.
I do not seek confirmation of an already defined idea.
Every encounter can teach me something and change what I am creating.
Sometimes an encounter does not simply enter the artwork: it can determine its direction.

MEDITERRANEO
THE DIALOGUE
An encounter can change the direction of the artwork.
In Mediterraneo, my mark encounters the words of Paolo Levi.
Drawing and poetry enter the same space and create a dialogue in which neither language is merely a commentary on the other.
The artwork thus continues beyond the gesture with which I began it: through the encounter, through words, and through the gaze of those who pass through it.

MEMORY

Palace of Justice, Milan — Courtroom 2
The work of Sergio Brambillasca transformed Courtroom 2 into the “Hall of Memory”.
Memory is not a place for me to return to.
It is the substance of the present.
What has happened continues to shape who we are,
our choices, and the way we look at others.
For this reason, in my works, the past is not celebrated.
It enters the present and returns as a question.
RESPONSIBILITY

My work does not seek to provide answers.
It seeks to ask questions we cannot avoid.
There are stories before which I choose not to remain outside.
I enter their reality, pass through it, and bring it into the process of the artwork.
For me, creating also means this:
not looking away.
